Oosterweel connection Antwerp

by

In our previous newsletter, we already informed you about our project in Antwerp, the Oosterweel connection, through a sneak preview. Now more! The Oosterweelverbinding completes Antwerp's ring road, contributing to much better mobility. A traffic-safe infrastructure will be constructed, which will also ensure a more liveable environment. There will also be a wide range of sustainable transport alternatives, in the form of extensive bicycle facilities, expansion of public transport and more P+Rs around the city.

If you drive to and from Antwerp via the Kennedy Tunnel, you cannot (literally) avoid it: a wall of steel is coming towards you.  A good 90,000 m3 of support material, needed for the realisation of flyovers K04 and K06. Safe assembles its unique Polysupport, where stamping loads of 100 kN are the rule rather than the exception. We also provide the horizontal deck formwork, including shiplaps. EPS fencing is used as all-round railing. We also provide access to the timbered decks via Ringscaff stair towers. To give construction traffic a free hand, a number of clearance profiles have been included. The complete engineering of these is also Safe's responsibility, as is the delivery and assembly, including steel profiles.

An impressive project with impressive figures. To name but a few:

Impressive numbers

Supporting heights varying up to almost 20 metres

Over 250,000 m3 of support material to be assembled in total

Total formwork surface area of over 25,000 m2

Deck thicknesses of over 2300 mm
